Freezes well
Of course, living in the village we are unable to buy bread from the store, therefore we eat nothing but delicious, wholesome homemade bread. We've always used a bread machine because they make life blissfully simple! Ha, ha! I usually make two or three loaves per week for my family. This recipe makes a two-pound loaf. I substitute half of the amount of flour with whole wheat flour.
- 1-1/2 C. warm water
- 2 T. instant dry milk
- 2 T. olive oil
- 2 T. honey
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 C. whole wheat flour
- 2 C. bread flour
- 1 T. yeast
Measure first five ingredients into bread machine pan and blend (I usually just tilt the pan around to stir it). Add flours and level off (so the yeast doesn't get wet), and measure yeast on top. Do not stir contents.
Place pan in machine, set for a 2-lb. whole wheat loaf and press start. Once finished baking, remove promptly from pan (otherwise it will become soggy, and nobody enjoys soggy bread). If you're making your first loaf, immediately cut a slice and spread with butter or jelly and make a cup of your favorite tea to go with it!
